Stem cell research has the potential to cure or alleviate many of today's most devastating diseases. But achieving this potential will require a high degree of collaboration, focus and innovation.
By funding and aligning universities, industry, government and non-governmental organizations, SCN is the key means of pursuing Canadian excellence and global leadership in applied stem cell research. SCN-funded research addresses pre-clinical issues that are too late for traditional academic grants but too early for industry sponsorship.
As many as nine clinical trials will flow from Network-funded research in the next seven years, paving the way for regenerative medicine to enter the clinic. Discoveries in one project often translate into redirection of other projects as new partnerships are formed and new contributors come on the scene.
More than 100 scientists, clinicians, engineers, and social scientists with international reputations work closely together within the Stem Cell Network to bring rigor and innovation to Canadian stem cell research. SCN is a Network of Centres of Excellence, Canada's flagship science and technology program.
