    CASRAI is pleased to announce the University of Waterloo’s recent membership into the Consortia.

    Joining CASRAI, notes Associate Vice-President for External Research Bruce Muirhead, enables Waterloo “to participate fully in CASRAI’s developing a national network designed to advance standards in research administration information.” Additionally, he notes that Waterloo “looks forward to productive cooperation with the Consortia and our fellow CASRAI members in this increasingly important area.”

    CASRAI’s Board and Management recently held planning summits with Canadian and United Kingdom leaders in advancing the CASRAI mandate in each country and internationally. Both summits resulted in a list of priorities in each country for advancing the CASRAI common dictionary for research administration.

    The 2nd annual CASRAI international conference (Reconnect13) will be held on October 16-18, 2013 at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, Canada (http://www.fairmont.com/laurier-ottawa/).

    Please mark the dates in your calendar to join us. The Montreal conference last year (Reconnect12 - Occupy Impact) had great reviews and we expect an even better event this year in Ottawa at the beautiful Chateau.

    In addition to a new partnership with the Canadian Association of University Research Administrators (CAURA), CASRAI is pleased to announce that Carleton University has joined as a member institution.

    Carleton’s membership will “deepen the diversity of our university participation," says David Baker, Executive Director of CASRAI. “We’re certainly glad to have them on board, and we look forward to their inclusion in CASRAI’s initiatives.”

    CASRAI is pleased to announce its recent partnership with the Canadian Association of University Research Administrators (CAURA) as part of efforts to advance the missions of both organizations.

    According to David Baker, executive director of CASRAI, “The university research administrator community has already been instrumental in advancing the CASRAI mandate, and so this new partnership between our organizations opens the doors to some very interesting joint projects. We are very excited about our partnership with CAURA. Stay tuned!”

    VIVO is an open source semantic web application that facilitates the exposure of research and scholarship across disciplines. A strategic partner of CASRAI, the national VIVO network includes the University of Florida, Cornell University, Indiana University, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, The Scripps Research Institute, Weill Cornell Medical College, and Ponce Medical College.

    CASRAI is pleased to announce a new member of its Board: Jean-Claude Gavrel, who recently retired from the positions of associate vice-president of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada and executive director of NSERC’s Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) after 12 years of service.

    David Baker, Executive Director of CASRAI, has been re-elected to the Board of euroCRIS, a non-profit European organization that promotes the development and interoperability of Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) for the management of research data portfolios.

    Voting members of euroCRIS recommended Baker for the positions of Executive for Strategy and External Relations, Executive for Communication, and Best Practice TG Leader.
