What we standardize
Standardizing the data exchanged between members includes the management of the following components:
Master Dictionary. CASRAI standardizes the master list of data elements that describe the key entities in a research administration environment. Examples include data elements that describe Researchers, Students, Institutions, Funders, Research Projects, Facilities, Equipment, etc.
Business Documents. CASRAI then standardizes the various process-specific documents that pull their contents from the Master Dictionary. Examples include business documents such as a Researcher CV, Community CV, Abridged CV, Public CV, Funding Opportunity, Grant Application, Research Budget, Progress and Final Reports, etc.
Lists & Taxonomies. CASRAI then standardizes the accepted contents of key data elements. Simple examples include lists of Institution and Department Names, Degree Types, etc. A more complex example would be a complete taxonomy for Research Classification.
Everything is XML
All data is encoded using the universally adopted XML specification for formatting data. XML encoding of CASRAI-compliant data makes it possible for any organization to use any system to process, store, and analyze this data, and removes the need for participants to share a common Web application in a business exchange.
