Scholarly publishing
The Scholarly publishing and editorial vocabulary working group defines the terms that carry a manuscript from submission to the published record — article types, licence and open-access status, peer-review models, correction and retraction notices, and the contributor-role vocabulary of the CRediT taxonomy. It works with NISO, COPE, ICMJE and Crossref to keep CASRAI's dictionary entries aligned with the JATS tag set and the editorial standards publishers already implement, so a term like "corresponding author" or a CRediT contributor role means the same thing in a submission system, a JATS XML record and a CRIS.

- What are examples of author contributions?
The CRediT taxonomy (ANSI/NISO Z39.104-2022) sets out 14 standardized author-contribution roles, including Conceptualization, Data curation, Formal analysis, Investigation, Methodology, Software, Supervision, and Writing – original draft. A single author can hold several roles on one paper, and each role carries a formal definition plus sample statement wording. CASRAI's CRediT hub documents the full role set that most journals now ask authors to select from during manuscript submission.
- What are the five author contributions?
There is no official five-item list within the CRediT taxonomy itself — the ANSI/NISO Z39.104-2022 standard defines 14 distinct contributor roles, not five. Some publisher summaries and reference pages cluster those 14 roles into a handful of broader categories, such as conceptual work, data and analysis, writing, and administration, which is likely the source of the 'five contributions' framing seen in search results. CASRAI's dictionary and CRediT hub list all 14 roles individually so authors and editors can select every role that actually applies, rather than a shortened set.
- What does this working group do?
The Scholarly publishing working group is the community body that drafts, reviews and ratifies dictionary entries for the Scholarly publishing domain. - Who can apply to join?
Working-group membership is open to qualified practitioners — researchers, research-office staff, librarians, publishers, repository managers, integrity officers, CRIS administrators, regulators and funders. Institutional membership is not required. The qualification test is competence and time, not affiliation. Apply via the working-group application form.
- What is the time commitment?
Cadence: Quarterly virtual sessions; two release windows per year (March and September).. Time commitment averages four hours per quarter for an active member, more for a chair. Asynchronous review happens between meetings via email. Chairs are recognised on the editorial masthead and serve a two-year term, renewable once.
- How are seats allocated?
Each working group has 12 community seats plus a chair and (optionally) a co-chair. Seats are filled by an open call reviewed against a published rubric: domain expertise, institutional diversity, regional balance, and an explicit slot for early-career researchers. - Can my institution sponsor a seat?
Institutional sponsorship is welcome but is not a route to a guaranteed seat. Sponsors support meeting infrastructure, public-comment publication and contributor honoraria; they receive named acknowledgement on the working-group page and in release notes.
