What is the difference between a benchtop autoclave and a floor-standing autoclave?

A benchtop (tabletop) autoclave is a small, self-contained, plug-in steam sterilizer (roughly 12-75 liters) suited to individual labs and clinics. A floor-standing autoclave is a large, permanently installed unit (roughly 100-1,000+ liters), often configured as a pass-through unit, built for high-volume hospital or institutional sterilization. They are also governed by different sections of the same standards families (ANSI/AAMI ST55 vs ST8; EN 13060 vs EN 285).

Is a tabletop autoclave the same as a benchtop autoclave?

Yes — "tabletop" and "benchtop" are used interchangeably by manufacturers and standards bodies (ANSI/AAMI ST55 uses "table-top") to describe the same category of small, countertop-mounted steam sterilizer, as distinct from a floor-standing unit.
