Converis (Clarivate)

Converis is Clarivate's commercial CRIS (Current Research Information System) product: a configurable platform that ingests publication and bibliometric data (including from Web of Science and other sources), manages pre-award and post-award research-project workflows, and exposes a public research-portal layer for institutions, funders, and national research agencies. An institution's software counts as an instance of Converis specifically when it is the Clarivate-branded, vendor-hosted or vendor-configured platform -- not merely any locally-built research-activity database with similar functions.

Examples

Worked examples

  • Is an instance

A national research agency deploying Converis as the shared platform through which its member universities report publications and funded projects for a national assessment exercise.

  • Is an instance

A university research office using Converis's pre-award module to track a grant application from initial proposal through award notification, then linking the resulting publications back to that award record.

Counter-examples

Looks similar, but isn't

  • Not an instance

A university's locally-built, in-house research-activity database is not Converis, even if it performs similar functions -- Converis specifically denotes the Clarivate-branded product.

  • Not an instance

Elsevier's Pure and Symplectic's Elements are competing CRIS products, not Converis, despite serving the same functional category.

Editorial commentary

Converis is Clarivate’s Current Research Information System (CRIS) product, positioned within Clarivate’s Academia & Government portfolio alongside Web of Science and InCites. It covers the research lifecycle from pre-award idea and application tracking through to output management: harvesting and validating publication and bibliographic metadata (including integration with Web of Science and other sources), tracking projects from proposal through award and outcome, and generating dashboards and reports for institutional, funder, and national-assessment reporting needs. Converis is configurable per institution and is used as the national or institutional research-information platform by a number of organisations, including as part of Finland’s national research-information ecosystem (where Finnish universities run Converis, Pure, or SoleCRIS) and, following a partnership announced by Clarivate, as the basis for the Egyptian Knowledge Bank’s national research-management system. Converis competes directly with Elsevier’s Pure and Symplectic’s Elements in the institutional CRIS market.
