EOSC Marketplace

The EOSC Marketplace is the discovery and access catalogue for services within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) — data sources, computing, processing, networking, security, sharing and discovery, and training services from providers across the EOSC Federation. It is not a repository or preservation service in its own right, and listing or access through the Marketplace does not by itself satisfy a funder's data-deposit requirement.

Ask about EOSC Marketplace

Ask CASRAI answers research-administration questions and cites the passages behind every claim — and says so when the corpus does not cover something, instead of guessing. It comes with a Regulatory Radar subscription at $29 a month, alongside the daily digest of regulatory changes and the dashboard of what changed.

Editorial commentary

The EOSC Marketplace (marketplace.eosc-portal.eu) is the discovery and access catalogue for services within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) — data sources, computing, processing, networking, security, sharing and discovery, and training services from providers across the EOSC Federation. It is not a repository or preservation service in its own right, and deposit through the Marketplace does not itself satisfy a funder’s repository requirement — it is the entry point through which researchers find and provision federated services, including repositories, that meet their own requirements independently.

Onboarding and governance

Services listed in the Marketplace go through onboarding criteria addressing FAIR alignment, identity-federation readiness (so users can authenticate once across federated services), and long-term sustainability. The Marketplace sits within EOSC Core — the shared technical layer (identity/AAI, resource catalogue, metadata knowledge graph, PID services, accounting, monitoring, helpdesk) that all EOSC-listed services plug into.

EOSC Beyond and the EOSC Federation

EOSC’s operating model continues to evolve: the EOSC Beyond project is enhancing EOSC Core capabilities — including the Marketplace, Resource Catalogue, Metadata Knowledge Graph, and Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure — so that scientific applications can find, compose, and access multiple EOSC resources as integrated capabilities. Operational continuity of the Marketplace and related Core services is being carried forward through the EOSC EU Node arrangement supporting the wider EOSC Federation. Researchers using the Marketplace should expect service listings and governance details to keep shifting as this transition continues, rather than treating any single portal URL as permanent.

Why it matters for research data management

For researchers outside dedicated EOSC-participating projects, the Marketplace is chiefly useful as a discovery surface — a way to find FAIR-aligned, European-federated repository and processing services — rather than a mandatory step in any specific funder’s data-sharing workflow.
