Ask about Argos (OpenAIRE)

Ask CASRAI answers research-administration questions and cites the passages behind every claim — and says so when the corpus does not cover something, instead of guessing. It comes with a Regulatory Radar subscription at $29 a month, alongside the daily digest of regulatory changes and the dashboard of what changed.

Editorial commentary

Argos is OpenAIRE’s open-source DMP authoring service, designed from the outset around the RDA DMP Common Standard and integrated with European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) infrastructure. Its templates are decomposed into typed questions rather than free-text fields, datasets are first-class entities carrying persistent identifiers, and every export natively conforms to RDA DMP Common Standard JSON rather than requiring a separate conversion step. Argos interoperates directly with Zenodo, OpenAIRE EXPLORE, and the OpenAIRE Research Graph, which lets a plan’s stated commitments be checked against evidence of the outputs a project actually produced.

A research office working on a Horizon Europe or other EOSC-affiliated project is likely to meet Argos specifically because of that integration — a consortium can create a plan in Argos with dataset entities already linked to Zenodo DOIs, and the resulting plan is discoverable from the OpenAIRE Research Graph rather than sitting as an isolated document. It is bundled, alongside other OpenAIRE services, into the broader OpenAIRE Nexus service portfolio.

How it differs from other DMP tools

  • vs. DMPRoadmap (DMPonline/DMPTool) — a different platform and operator; DMPRoadmap’s strength is broad institutional/multi-funder template coverage, Argos’s is native EOSC and OpenAIRE Research Graph integration.
  • vs. DataDMP / ezDMP — both are also RDA-Common-Standard-native, but DataDMP is oriented to German institutional RDM infrastructure and ezDMP to a specific funder’s requirements, rather than EOSC integration.
