Doctor in Condado by Video, Plus the ER on Ashford Avenue

Ashford Presbyterian Community Hospital is at 1451 Ashford Ave, San Juan, PR 00907, on the same avenue as the hotels. Phone 787-721-2160; ER extensions 1095, 1096, 1097 and 1098. Its page says the ER is open 24 hours, 7 days, with a 24-hour pediatric ER, and that it was the first hospital in Puerto Rico to open one.

Ashford calls itself the designated emergency hospital for Luis Muñoz Marín airport, the cruise ship docks, the Convention Center and the metro-area hotels, and the San Juan Cruise Port's contact page lists it as the port's hospital. It is not affiliated with us. If someone can't walk unaided, has chest pain or is struggling to breathe, don't take them yourself: call 911 and give the hotel name.

At night in Condado the ER is close by; what is scarce is an open pharmacy counter. We could not verify any urgent care clinic or CDT in Condado, so there is no in-between option in the neighborhood. Work through it in this order:

Condado Lagoon lies just south of the avenue. It is the Laguna del Condado Nature Reserve, with mangroves and manatees, linked to the Atlantic by El Boquerón and to San Juan Bay by the San Antonio Channel. The San Juan Bay Estuary Program samples the lagoon for fecal bacteria (enterococci) every Thursday and posts results on Fridays against the federal Beach Action Value of 70 CFU per 100 ml. On the hotel beach, check the National Weather Service beach forecast (opens in a new tab) for the day's rip-current risk. NOAA warns a Portuguese man o' war can sting weeks after washing up; see jellyfish stings. We found no primary source for lifeguard hours in Condado, so we do not publish any.

To the south, Hospital Pavía Santurce (Calle Prof. Augusto Rodríguez #1462, Parada 22, 787-641-1616) advertises a 24-hour ER for adults. To the east, Hospital UPR Dr. Federico Trilla (Route 3 km 8.3, Carolina, 787-757-1800) runs an ER and says it treats pediatric emergencies. According to the CDC, bacterial travelers' diarrhea usually lasts 3 to 7 days untreated and viral diarrhea 2 to 3 days; staying hydrated matters most. Blood in the stool, a high fever or signs of dehydration mean you should be seen in person.
